Neal's instincts said to lie, to bend the truth, because it was easier, but he also knew that he'd be letting a whole hell of a lot of people down that way. So, as frustrating as it was, he went for the truth, or as close to it as he was willing to get.

"Right before I got here, there was an FBI agent after me. He wanted to put me away again, for mistakes that I made a long time ago that I'd been trying to fix. What he wanted from me was worse than prison, so I was running, and I ended up here. I didn't know where I was or how I got here, I just knew that I couldn't let him find me."
